December 15th Recap & Application of Pastor Kevyn’s Sermon Notes: The Messianic Hope- Part 3

Kevyn’s Core Message

Jesus, the Promised Messiah, fulfilled dozens of Old Testament prophecies. His purpose, from the foundation of the world, was to become the Suffering Servant, offering His life to forgive and restore humanity. Celebrating His birth is recognizing the most important event in history, the arrival of the Savior.

Main Points and Application

1. Jesus’ Death Serves an Eternal Purpose

Scripture:

Genesis 22:8

“God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.”

Genesis 22:12

“Do not lay a hand on the boy or do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your only son from Me.”

Genesis 22:14

“And Abraham named that place The Lord Will Provide, so today it is said: ‘It will be provided on the Lord’s mountain.’”

Leviticus 17:11

“For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have appointed it to you to make atonement on the altar for your lives, since it is the lifeblood that makes atonement.”

Application:

Jesus’ sacrifice was foretold through Abraham and the Levitical system, demonstrating that atonement comes through the shedding of blood. In your daily walk, reflect on how Jesus’ sacrifice was a provision for your sins. Live with gratitude, and let your life be a response of worship, seeking to align with God’s eternal purpose.

2. The Predicted King Became the Suffering Servant to Provide Forgiveness

Scripture (Read Isaiah 52:13-53:12):

Isaiah 52:13

“See, my servant will be successful; he will be raised and lifted up and greatly exalted.”

Isaiah 52:14

“Just as many were appalled at you—his appearance was so disfigured that he did not look like a man, and his form did not resemble a human being—”

Isaiah 53:5

“But he was pierced because of our rebellion, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on him, and we are healed by his wounds.”

Isaiah 53:7

“He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth. Like a lamb led to the slaughter and like a sheep silent before her shearers, he did not open his mouth.”

Isaiah 53:9

“He was assigned a grave with the wicked, but he was with a rich man at his death, because he had done no violence and had not spoken deceitfully.”

Application:

Recognize that Jesus fulfilled these prophecies with stunning accuracy, becoming the Suffering Servant who took on your sins and offered forgiveness. Let this truth guide your life in humility and service to others. Forgive as He forgave and serve selflessly, reflecting the heart of Christ.

3. Jesus Taught the Purpose of His Life

Scripture:

Mark 10:45

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Application:

Follow Jesus’ example by living a life of service to others. Make it a daily habit to look for ways to put others’ needs ahead of your own. When you feel overwhelmed or discouraged, remember that your purpose is rooted in Christ’s ultimate act of service.
