December 22nd Recap & Application of Pastor Kevyn’s Sermon Notes: The Messianic Hope- Part 4

Pastor Kevyn’s sermon series explores the Advent season through the lens of Old Testament prophecy, affirming our confidence in Jesus as the solution to humanity’s deepest problems. Below are the notes expanded with scripture references and practical application steps for your daily walk with Jesus.

Week 1: Jesus, the King of the Kingdom (Purple)

Genesis 12:1-3
"Now the Lord said to Abram, 'Go from your country, And from your relatives And from your father’s house, To the land which I will show you; And I will make you into a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing; And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.'”

Application: Trust in God's promises even when the path is unclear. Like Abraham, take steps of faith, knowing God is faithful to fulfill His plans for you and through you to bless others.

Isaiah 11:1-10
"Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch from his roots will bear fruit. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and strength, The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord."

Application: Recognize Jesus as the King who rules with justice and peace. Submit your life to His guidance, seeking His wisdom in every decision.

Week 2: Jesus, the Blameless Servant (White)

Isaiah 53:5
"But He was pierced for our offenses, He was crushed for our wrongdoings; The punishment for our well-being was laid upon Him, And by His wounds we are healed."

Application: Reflect on Jesus' sacrifice, which paid the price for your sins. Live in gratitude by extending forgiveness and grace to others, modeling His love.

Zechariah 12:10
"And I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and of pleading, so that they will look at Me whom they pierced; and they will mourn for Him, like one mourning for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him, like the bitter weeping over a firstborn."

Application: Allow the Holy Spirit to convict your heart of areas needing transformation. Seek deeper communion with Jesus by turning to Him in repentance and faith.

Week 3: Jesus, the Suffering Servant (Red)

Genesis 22:8
"And Abraham said, 'God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.' So the two of them walked on together."

Application: Trust in God’s provision in every area of your life. Just as God provided Jesus as the ultimate sacrifice, know that He will meet your needs in His perfect timing.

Isaiah 52:13
"Behold, My Servant will prosper, He will be high and lifted up, and greatly exalted."

Application: Praise Jesus for His obedience and exalted position. Live with the confidence that, through Him, you are reconciled to God and equipped to serve Him.

Week 4: Jesus, the Restorer of Life (Green)

Isaiah 7:14
"Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin will conceive and give birth to a Son, and she will name Him Immanuel."

Application: Find comfort in knowing God is with you (Immanuel). In times of uncertainty, remember His presence is your greatest assurance.

Isaiah 9:6-7
"For a Child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace."

Application:
Surrender to Jesus as your Wonderful Counselor and Prince of Peace. Seek His guidance in prayer and allow His peace to rule over anxiety in your heart.

Micah 5:2
"But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will come forth for Me to be ruler in Israel."

Application: Recognize that God often uses humble circumstances to fulfill His plans. Trust Him to bring significance out of your ordinary moments.

Jesus, the Fulfillment of Prophecy

John 16:33
"These things I have spoken to you so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world."

Application: Take heart amidst trials, knowing Jesus has overcome the world. Let His peace guard your heart, and encourage others with the same truth.

Matthew 11:28-30
"Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is comfortable, and My burden is light."

Application: Lay down your burdens before Jesus daily. Rely on His strength, not your own, and learn from His example of humility and gentleness.
