December 8th Recap & Application of Pastor Kevyn’s Sermon Notes: The Messianic Hope- Part 2

Kevyn’s Core Message:

Jesus was and is the Promised Messiah, fulfilling God’s plan to heal creation. Christmas is a celebration of His arrival, rejection, and ultimate victory as both King and Servant.

Main Points and Application

1. Jesus Is the Promised Messiah and King of the Kingdom of God

Scripture:

Isaiah 11:1-10

“Then a shoot will grow from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him, a Spirit of wisdom and understanding, a Spirit of counsel and strength, a Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.”

Application:

Jesus, as the King of the Kingdom, represents God's promise to restore creation. In your daily walk, trust Jesus to heal broken areas in your life, knowing He is the ultimate "Superman" who brings peace and justice. Pray for wisdom and strength to reflect His Kingdom values, love, justice, and humility, in all that you do.

2. The Rejected Servant: Jesus Died to Heal Us

Scripture:

Psalm 22:1, 6

“My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? … But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by mankind and despised by people.”

Isaiah 53:3

“He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering who knew what sickness was. He was like someone people turned away from; he was despised, and we didn’t value him.”

Application:

Jesus experienced rejection and suffering so He could take your place and heal your brokenness. Reflect on His sacrifice when you face challenges. When rejected or despised, remember Jesus’ example of endurance and love. Surrender your pain and burdens to Him, trusting that His rejection leads to your salvation.

3. The Messiah as Both King and Servant

Scripture:

Isaiah 11:1-10

“A shoot will grow from the stump of Jesse…”

Isaiah 53:2

“He grew up before him like a young plant and like a root out of dry ground.”

Application:

Jesus embodies both authority as King and humility as Servant. Apply this truth by leading with humility in your relationships. Serve others selflessly while standing firm in the authority of your identity in Christ. Let His life inspire you to blend strength with compassion in your daily interactions.

4. Jesus’ Rejection and Crucifixion Were Foretold

Scripture:

Psalm 22:16

“They pierced my hands and my feet.”

Zechariah 12:10

“Then I will pour out a spirit of grace and prayer on the house of David and the residents of Jerusalem, and they will look at me whom they pierced.”

Application:

Christmas is not just about celebrating Jesus’ birth but recognizing the significance of His rejection and crucifixion. Reflect on the cost of your salvation during this season. Commit to walking daily in gratitude and obedience to the One who gave everything for you.

5. The Challenge of the Cross: Follow Jesus Fully

Scripture:

1 Corinthians 1:18-19

“For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but it is the power of God to us who are being saved. For it is written, ‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will set aside the intelligence of the intelligent.’”

Application:

Commit to living out your faith boldly, even when it seems countercultural or foolish to the world. Trust in the power of the cross to transform you and those around you. Make daily decisions that reflect your understanding of who Jesus is, your King and Savior.
