Theme: Understanding Jesus’ identity as the fulfillment of Messianic Expectations and how this hope shapes our daily walk with Him.
Who Was Jesus?
Verse: "Simon Peter answered, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.'" – Matthew 16:16
Application: Acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God in your daily life. Let this truth guide your decisions, relationships, and purpose. In moments of doubt, reaffirm your faith by remembering His divine identity and authority.
Messianic Expectation: Advent as a Season of Hope
Definition: Advent celebrates the arrival of Jesus, focusing on four aspects of His identity and mission. Each week, light a candle and reflect on its meaning.
Purple Candle: Jesus, the King of the Kingdom
Remember that Jesus rules with justice and righteousness. Live under His reign by pursuing integrity and humility.
White Candle: Jesus, the Blameless Servant
Reflect Jesus’ purity by seeking forgiveness and striving to live in holiness.
Red Candle: Jesus, the Suffering Servant
Embrace the sacrificial love of Christ by serving others selflessly.
Green Candle: Jesus, the Restorer of Life
Share the hope of renewal in Jesus, offering encouragement and love to those around you.
Today’s Reading: Isaiah 11:1-10
1. Messianic Expectation: A Healer of Creation
Verses: "Then a shoot will grow from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— a Spirit of wisdom and understanding, a Spirit of counsel and strength, a Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord." – Isaiah 11:1-2
Application: Trust Jesus as the ruler who embodies wisdom and justice. Seek His Spirit in your life to guide your decisions and align your heart with His.
Verses: "The wolf will dwell with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the goat. The calf, the young lion, and the fattened calf will be together, and a child will lead them." – Isaiah 11:6
Application: Find peace in knowing that Jesus will bring harmony to a broken world. Be a peacemaker in your own relationships, reflecting the future He promises.
Verse: "They will not harm or destroy each other on my entire holy mountain, for the land will be as full of the knowledge of the Lord as the sea is filled with water." – Isaiah 11:9
Application: Live with hope that Jesus will end all destruction and pain. Share His love with others to spread the knowledge of God.
2. Messianic Hope: God’s Promises Fulfilled
Verses: "I will make you into a great nation, I will bless you...and all the peoples on earth will be blessed through you." – Genesis 12:2-3
Application: Recognize that Jesus is the fulfillment of God’s promise to bless all nations. Let your actions be a blessing to others, demonstrating God’s faithfulness.
Verse: "Your house and kingdom will endure before me forever, and your throne will be established forever." – 2 Samuel 7:16
Application: Trust in the eternal reign of Jesus. Lean on His authority in moments of uncertainty, knowing He is sovereign over all things.
3. Messianic Hope: The Messiah’s Death and Resurrection
Verses: "The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." – Matthew 20:28
Application: Follow Jesus’ example of service. Seek opportunities to sacrificially love and serve others in your community.
Verse: "While they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said, 'Take and eat it; this is my body.'” – Matthew 26:26
Application: Remember Jesus’ sacrifice during communion and in daily prayer. Let His offering inspire you to live gratefully and faithfully.
The Messiah’s Clarification by Jesus
Jesus’ Power and Authority
"So that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins…" – Matthew 9:6
Application: Rest in the forgiveness Jesus provides. Let go of guilt and shame, knowing He has the power to redeem you fully.
Jesus’ Promise to Establish the Kingdom
"Because He was near Jerusalem, and they thought the kingdom of God was going to appear right away, He told them a parable…" – Luke 19:11
Application: Live with the expectation of Jesus’ return. Prepare your heart by walking in obedience and faithfulness each day.
Verse: "And he said, 'Jesus, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.'" – Luke 23:42
Application: Like the thief on the cross, place your trust in Jesus’ promise of eternal life. Acknowledge Him as King, even in your weakest moments.
