June 23rd Recap & Application of Pastor Kevyn’s Sermon Notes: Jesus Taught that God’s Spirit Can Do “in us” what we cannot do without His help.
Jesus works supernaturally in those who are willing. His most important teaching is our need for God’s transforming work within us through His inner presence.
1. Jesus’ Teaching on God's Transforming Work
John 4:10-14 "Jesus answered and said to her, 'If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, "Give Me a drink," you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.' She said to Him, 'Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?' Jesus answered and said to her, 'Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.'"
John 7:37-39 "On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, 'If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.' But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified."
Action to Consider: Seek the living water that Jesus offers through the Holy Spirit. Let the Spirit flow from within you, bringing life and renewal.
Matthew 13:3-23, Mark 4:3-20, Luke 8:4-15 Jesus' parable of the sower teaches that the seed of truth, when sown in good soil, produces real fruit.
Action to Consider: Allow God's Word to take root in your heart. Cultivate a receptive heart that welcomes His truth, resulting in a fruitful life.
Matthew 4:4, Luke 4:4 "Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."
John 6:51 "I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; anyone who eats of this bread will live forever."
Matthew 16:16-23 Jesus reveals that understanding comes from God.
Action to Consider: Depend on God’s Word for spiritual nourishment and insight. Recognize that true understanding and revelation come from the Father.
John 15:1-8 "We cannot bear fruit apart from abiding in Jesus."
John 18:37-38 Jesus came to testify to the truth.
John 8:31-32, 14:6, 17:17 "Sanctify them in truth; Your word is truth."
Action to Consider: Abide in Jesus and His teachings. Let His truth sanctify you, setting you free and guiding your actions.
John 14:17, 20:22 "The Spirit 'in us' is necessary for life. Jesus breathed on them and said, 'Receive the Spirit.'"
Action to Consider: Embrace the Holy Spirit’s presence within you, allowing Him to guide, empower, and transform your life.
2. Receiving God's Work Like Children
Mark 10:13-16 "Allow the children to come to Me; do not forbid them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all. And He took them in His arms and began blessing them, laying His hands on them."
Action to Consider: Approach God with the humility and trust of a child. Surrender to His work within you, embracing His kingdom wholeheartedly.
3. The Ministry of the Holy Spirit Within Us
John 14:16-26 "He will give you another Paraclete, so that He may be with you forever; the Paraclete is the Spirit of truth ... He remains with you and will be in you. But the Paraclete, ... He will teach you all things, and will remind you of all that I said to you."
Action to Consider: Welcome the Holy Spirit as your teacher and helper. Trust in His guidance and allow Him to remind you of Jesus' teachings, leading you into all truth.
Summary of Actions to Consider:
Seek the Living Water: Invite the Holy Spirit to flow within you, bringing life and renewal.
Cultivate Receptiveness: Allow God's Word to take root and produce fruit in your life.
Depend on God's Word: Rely on Scripture for spiritual nourishment and understanding.
